How can I create a Reddit Community?

Main Post:

Hello r/NewToReddit Community

We are a charity organization and want to create a Reddit Community for our members? How does it exactly work and what do I need to fulfill?

Thanks for any advice :)

What exactly is Make.com?

Main Post:

Could someone explain Make to me? It seems like a Zapier alternative. My non-profit just got approved for their team's plan. Based on my post, I want to use them to have a 3rd party build custom apps. Is this possible using Make?

Top Comment: Make.com is an automation platform. It is very similar to Zapier although some (myself included) would say that it’s superior due to its visual designer. You don’t build apps using it per se, however it’s an excellent companion to no-code app builders (like Glide) where it can be used to enable integration with third party services and perform tasks relating to your data in the background. It’s an excellent tool.

Opinions on make.com?

Main Post:

I recently had a debate with a friend of mine, who is adamant on not learning to program because he affirms they will be worthless as time goes on. He says automatizations is today's game, and told me about make.com, where he just created an assistant (really really good) to create appointments. I told him i don't like the idea of being dependent of a platform and i want to create my entire own structure, my objectives are clearly different to his; i want to create neural networks and ultimately my own llm to help me.

My argument is the following: i do not want to depend on anything or anyone, i want to fully understand what i'm doing and why i'm doing it, i absolutely fucking hate a solutionist approach to things and believe that's the world that's being built right now. That is why i want to learn from scratch: CS/ML math, python, and then build my NNs.

Thoughts?

Top Comment: You are young, and you are a student. It's perfectly okay to feel like that. I did as well back then, and a CS teacher told me he did, too, until he got on a job, and it was more important to get sh*t done quickly. And he was right. It's also a skill, to know when to look for a library that will save you a lot of time. But it's also good to keep in mind that every dependency carries its own risks: to disappear suddenly, to suffer a supply chain attack, etc. In your future jobs, you will have to ponder this. Doing everything from scratch is rarely the wisest to do. But right now, as a student, you may enjoy this. It's your time to learn, and there's nothing like learning from the basics.

CMV: Reddit mods need to do better.

Main Post:

IMPORTANT EDIT: By "mods", I actually meant sitewide admins

The hate speech policy is so selective. There are some groups which you cannot make hate speech towards them. But for other groups, it's fair game. Whoever is in the "majority", whatever that means, is considered fair game. I honestly think this is absolutely ridiculous.

Reddit admins clearly do not stick to their policy of no inciting, glorifying, or threatening violence. We can see this in all the subreddits glorifying Luigi Mangione and the Reddit moderators not batting an eye. And no, I am not going to debate you on this post on whether what he did was right or wrong. That's a topic for another day. At the end of the day, it was still an act of murder, which is violence.

Reddit admins make no effort to ban any of the subreddits sexualising celebrities without their consent.

Reddit is going down a dark path and unless the admins actually do something, Reddit will become even more of a cesspool.

Top Comment: You need to clear up the vocabulary in your post before there can be a discussion. Mods on reddit are the volunteers who create and moderate individual subreddits. Anyone can be a mod by creating a subreddit, or you can be asked to be a mod by an existing mod of a subreddit. So points like Reddit mods make no effort to ban any of the subreddits sexualising celebrities without their consent. Is because reddit mods can't ban subreddits. That's for reddit admins to do. Reddit admins do broad enforcement of big rules, but then each individual sub has it's own rules, created and enforced by mods. Who are you talking about, and what specific issues do you have, because this post indicates that you don't really understand how reddit works, or who has responsibilitiy for each task.
